The Caritas Lerncafés were founded in the school year of 2007/2008, due to urgent needs. The Caritas Lerncafés are supposed to enable children, on the margins of society, to receive the support they really need to get in order to get through school. The aim is to break social inheritance and to give students a good education and, above all, an understanding of their necessity. In addition to school learning, it is also about social learning and interaction with other children from different cultures.
The team of Caritas Lerncafés consists of 21 educational members, as well as a team of coordinator (volunteer work) and a management. All the members of the staff are only part-time employed. There are currently 8 Lerncafés situated in different locations. In each Lerncafé there is a manager and one to three employees.
All 8 Lerncafe locations are identical. At each of the locations there is a high demand. In addition, there would be demand in other districts. At the moment the exact need is being assessed, or there are talks with the congregations about a possible expansion.
